Autumn Equinox 2024

20240921_114212

Night and day,
Near perfect balance;
Equinox.

The equinox, simply put, is when the sun is positioned exactly above the equator, so for a moment both night and day have equal length.  A moment of harmony.  Here in the UK that moment will be at 01.43 pm today, Sunday 22nd September.

From today, here in the northern hemisphere, the days will grow shorter, as the earth transforms towards a new season.  The autumn equinox opens the doorway to winter.  Are you preparing for the change of season: to rest, recharge and dream?

Happy autumn equinox.

Ashley

  1. A nice haiga, with the equinox image and a beautiful hokku. Here, in Kentucky, you can tell you are in the heart of autumn, and the sun is at a lower angle, giving us cooler mornings…mid-autumn is here! I always enjoy your posts, Ashtree-san! Keep walking, and savor this time of the year, knowing that colder, darker days will soon be here.

    1. Hi Edo-san, we’ve actually had the heating on in the early morning. There is definitely a chill to the days. When I go for a morning walk I wear a cap with a big peak to help keep the sun out of my eyes; it’s so low! 😉🙋‍♂️

  2. Hope you enjoyed today’s autumn equinox Ashley. I’ve often discussed this with friends and i’ve come to the conclusion i’ve only truly observed the equinox with all its meaning only a handful of times in my life. most of the time, i was just simply aware it happened. but i see now how short our time here is on earth from the fact that most of us will probably never truly observe these changes for more than 60 or so times. May we all enjoy the silent power of these equinoxes moving forward. Have a great week ahead Ashley. Mike

    1. Hi Mike, thank you for your thoughtful comments. There are 4 seasons to celebrate and with each comes change. I hope you will always enjoy the seasons. 🙏🙋‍♂️

  3. Happy autumn equinox to you, too, Ashley! Having grown up in the tropics near to the Equator, where “night and day [are] in perfect balance,” I’m still enthralled with the transformation towards a new season. After a summer of excessive heat, I look forward to the cooler days of autumn 🙂

    1. Dear Rosaliene, thank you for your interesting comments. I hope you have a blessed autumn and continue to look forward to the changing seasons. 🤗🌹🙋‍♂️

  4. Hope you had a wonderful Equinox. I used to do full blown ceremonies for Solstices and Equinoxes for decades. Do you do something special?

The art work is very pretty..and the Haiku.

I’m always dreaming but no matter the season, I will continue to do my work to free and heal this planet

    1. Dear Katelon, my celebration of the seasons is all in my writing and hopefully also in my little artwork. I give thanks to Mother Earth every day. 🤗🌹🙋‍♂️

    1. Hi Lisa, happy autumn to you too! The light is fading quickly here too; we have a small night light that switches on when light levels are low. It came on around 5.00pm and here I am at 7.00pm and all the curtains are drawn. 🤗🌹🙋‍♂️

(I hope Google Translate has worked okay)

    1. Hi Kerfe, following the seasons is my reason for being & so I see no problem with the changes. You mention hibernation, something to look forward to, when we can dream & have hope for the spring. 🤗🌹🙋‍♂️

  6. Autumn is my favorite season, the landscapes with fallen leaves are beautiful. The rain is welcome. Currently a pleasant 16 degrees under a mild sun. Un abrazo Ashley ✨

  7. Wow, I can’t believe the equinox has already passed! (It’s still hot here in Korea, though)
Your posts are always the ones that remind me of these things like the solstice and equinox…!
Of course, I saw it a bit late! 😅 Thank you for such a thoughtful post! 😁

  8. I’m glad to have been of help. Haha, should I be sending you a solstice/equinox diary? 😉

I wonder how these festivals are celebrated in Korea? I’ve just bought a book called ‘Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop’ by Hwang Bo-Reum. Maybe there will be a mention of the festivals in it?

All ready the evenings are closing-in; now we turn the house lights on to read at night. Thank you, Migy, for your marvellous comments. 🤗🌹🙋‍♂️
