Drawing again! Week 1

I was encouraged by Anna (* see below) to start drawing again, by joining in the #inktober group.  When I first saw the list of prompts I thought I could manage at least a few days of following the prompts.  I only got as the first day and decided the list was too restrictive!  There I go again, always wanting to do my own thing!  So, here I am at the end of week one, drawing ‘something’ every day.

It’s a journey of discovery and already I find that I love patterns and I’m sure to do lots more!  In some ways I think I’m repeating an exercise I did a few years ago (**) highlighting something I did on the day, creating a ‘calendar’ of little daily drawings.

We had another day out to Warrenpoint (and a lovely lunch) on Carlingford Lough, so those little sketches relate to that, and to finish the six days of drawing, that’s me at the doctor’s having both a Covid booster and a flu jab, both at the same time; one, two, three, ouch!  No more drawing for that day!

  1. Nice drawings, Ashroot! That’s a great idea, drawing something every day. I may have to try something like that, whether it’s drawing, watercoloring, or making origami…I love doing all three, but I just don’t do it, for some reason. Motivation! It’s easier said than done. That’s my excuse. ha Hope you two had a great time at Warrenpoint.

    1. I’m not sure what it is, Edo-san, that stops me from drawing regularly! I can become engrossed whilst drawing; perhaps I’m just too easily distracted. I look forward to one day seeing your origami. 😊 The sun was shining in Warrenpoint but I had to hold onto Carol as the wind might have carried her off! 😉🙋‍♂️

  2. Well done for doing daily drawings. They look lovely, I do love the landscapes very much. ( Not so much your red arms ) Hope you feel well after those 2 jabs. You’ll need to draw tomorrow with your toes. 🙂

    All the best, Ashley ♥

    1. Haha! Toes! I visited a podiatrist recently and to help with nerve pain in my feet, emanating from lower spine, he suggested several exercises one of which entailed lifting only my big toe, then lifting the others one at a time! You’re having a laugh I said! No, serious! So, I’m practicing and maybe I’ll try drawing with my feet, one day! 🦶✏🦶

  3. What a super idea, Ashley. I need to draw more. Too much time with screens. I suspect even drawing though, I’d work out a way of involving a screen. 🤔

  4. Good for you for being up to the challenge of a daily drawing. It’s something I’ve thought about but I know I’d fall by the wayside after a few days…and I know I’d only want to draw something that interests me!

    1. Thank you. It’s not easy and I’ve not stuck to the prompts because they don’t do anything for me. I suppose what I’m trying to do is establish a routine that will see me drawing or painting regularly, whether I publish the results here or not. 🤗🌹🙋‍♂️

    1. Thanks Ruth. You’re right, once the habit stops, it’s difficult getting back into the routine again. Whether I can continue to draw remains to be seen. 🤗🌹🙋‍♂️

  5. I really only draw when copying things into my nature journal but I’m also quite lazy and cut out pics from magazines. Therapeutic anyway.

    1. Dear Harini, it is a real shame when we give up (for whatever reason) a creative part of our lives. That’s what I’m hoping to do by drawing something every day. It doesn’t have to be perfect, or even good, but I think the action of drawing or painting, allows one to relax and get in touch with one’s creative nature. I’m sure we all have it, if only we worked at it. I saw a book title once “Draw Yourself Calm” and thought that would be great to do. 🤗🌹🙋‍♂️

    1. Thanks Graham for your encouragement. I’m easily distracted and so I’m hoping that by doing little drawings I can keep going; also not trying to be perfect. 👍

  6. Thanks Cindy, unfortunately it was a bad night and today started badly. Pain in nearly every joint. However, strong pain meds have helped through the day. Hopefully I’ll have a good night’s sleep. 🙏

  7. Nice drawings. I sometimes do a drawing a day in summertime when I have time of. That’s fun and then I draw what comes up in my mind. No inktober prompts, just my own mind prompts 🙂

    1. Thank you, Anna, for your lovely comments. Something I’ve learned over the week is that the drawings don’t need to be large, in fact small is great! 🤗🌹🙋‍♂️

    1. Thank you, however, it’s a sea lough not a lake and can be found between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland on the east coast. 🙋‍♂️
