My Spring

Just before Christmas I came down with a viral infection and so I spent the next few days in bed.  No Christmas Day lunch with family, no wedding anniversary (our 53rd) and no New Year celebrations!  We were determined that we should still enjoy those celebrations but at a later date.  Thankfully, I was able to move the night out we had planned for our anniversary to February, when it was also my birthday.

We have just returned, having spent a couple of days on the shores of Belfast Lough.  First it was a birthday lunch in The Stables, Groomsport and then on to Donaghadee where we spent the night at Pier 36.  Here are some photos from Groomsport:

Having feasted at The Stables we drove on to Donaghadee.  With the skies starting to dim, we signed into Pier 36 for our one night stay.  Here are some photos from Donaghadee:

On arrival back home after our little adventure, I spotted some bright yellow flowers in the garden:

From dark days,
To brighter days;
Look, daffodils!

Note:  In case you’re wondering if you recognise Donaghadee from the television, you’re right.  The town was featured in a series called Hope Street and called Port Devine.  The series also featured a pub/hotel called the Commodore which in real life is Pier 36.

  1. Lovely! It looks very much like my part of the world. Our daffs aren’t blooming quite yet, though, but they’re getting ready to bust open!

    1. Thank you, Camilla. Perhaps you are at little further north than me (I’m at 54.414). And these little daffs are in my north facing back garden!

      1. I’m at 47.798° (in Kingston, Washington, US) so we’re actually a bit south of you. We are just coming out of a cold snap, though, so they were probably just hunkering down for that. Today was unseasonably warm, and I saw the first one I’ve seen yet fully open in a neighbor’s yard. 🙂

  2. Great you could go later. Happy belated Birthday and Anniversary. It is always great to have some days away.

I remember Hope street and do remember the scenery there.

It looks lovely specially with the blue sky. … and coming back to a beautiful Daffodil, what more can you ask for. 🙂

  3. Thank you, Bela! Yes, sunshine, often seen after the rain clears! 😉 Today it’s completely overcast, grey and dismal 😒 but it is only February! 🤗💓😊

    1. Thank you, Sabius! The last few years have had difficulties and to go through last Christmas and New Year without celebration…😒 Thank you for your good wishes.👍🥂👍

  4. Some fabulous blue sky for your celebration! ..and very belated birthday wishes x

I almost expected to see some of the cast of Hope Street on the pier!

    1. Haha! Maybe when we return we’ll be taken on as extras! Staying in the “Commodore” we were had our photo taken behind the bar! I won’t post it here but you may see it in an email at some point. We’ve always loved Donaghadee and Groomsport and visit as often as we can. Thank you for the birthday wishes. 🤗😊

  5. Dear Ashley, I’m sorry to hear you had to deal with a viral infection before Christmas. That sounds really unpleasant, especially during this festive season. I can only imagine how disappointing it was to spend the holidays without the usual celebration with family—and then the anniversary too! However, it’s great to hear you didn’t let it get you down and just made up for it! A birthday and a wedding anniversary in one month—that sounds like double the joy! 🎉 I hope you had a wonderful time at Belfast Lough. The photos from Groomsport look gorgeous! It seems like you found the perfect setting for your celebrations.

Ashley, I wish you all the best….Rosie from Germany

    1. Dear Rosie, thank you for your kind, warm words. Christmas and the New Year was not such a happy time but we were able to thoroughly enjoy our time away at the time of my birthday! We will shortly return to the area for a couple nights and hope that the current stable weather remains. I will probably add another post with more photos of the lighthouse in Donaghadee; we love it there. Again, thank you for your visit here. 🤗💐🙋‍♂️

    1. Dear Barbara, thank you. We had a wonderful time and plan to return there very soon. Sending fresh and bright Spring wishes. 🤗💐🙋‍♂️
