Early September

The temperature is currently 22c and it is expected to rise by at least another 2c this afternoon!  That is hot for this part of these islands!  According to the traditional pagan calendar that I follow for my seasonal writing, the autumn began in early August, whilst meteorologists claim the 1st September as the start of autumn!

There is another calendar, of which I no very little, the astronomical calendar, & that has autumn starting around the 21st September.  My dear WordPress friend Marina, at

will have to fill me in on the meaning of astrological autumn, however, after I complained about the miserable summer we were having here in July and August, she did offer to send me some warm sunny Mediterranean sunshine.  It has surely arrived, & Marina, I can only say thank her for her sunny uplifting wishes!

These photos are from a day out to Groomsport on the north coast of County Down.  The little harbour sits facing into Belfast Lough & the Irish Sea & I love it there!  If I could live there (in my dreams) I would be in heaven: very few people except in summer, one pub, a small supermarket, a restaurant & very accessible to the usual amenities that an older person like me would need!  It was so warm I had to wear my shorts!  Sorry!  No photographs! 🤣  But it was the best day out that we’ve had in months!

The problems of the world, the Earth’s climate, the war in Europe & various other negative personal stories, did not go away, but I’m refreshed & renewed, simply by visiting the coast!  Thank you, Marina! 🤗🌹🙋‍♂️

  1. Thank you, Ashley, for your lovely post. I am glad that you a feeling better after your trip, and temperature here is rising over 32 degrees!

This is a result of climate change and we are advice to get used to it.

I some countries people live now with 50 C degrees!

Feeling like a shrimp on a hot plate!

  2. Marina is enchanting, sending you warm weather and sunshine. I envy you and Carol, walking on the beach, listening to the waves and gulls. Glad you were able to get refreshed! The photos are beautiful, Fraxinus! I’m thinking about mid-autumn and slightly cooler weather, here. Let’s enjoy today!

    1. Thanks, Edo! Get to the beach & breath in the ozone! Long journey for you, I suppose, although here nowhere is further than 50-70 miles from the coast. I think we’ll be going back to Groomsport on Sunday, for lunch!

  3. It looked like a lovely day at a beautiful waterfront. Our temperatures have been over 100 degrees – F (38 C) for weeks now. I just stay inside during the heat of the day – this climate change is hard to deal with.

    1. Oh no! That would be too much for us! We’ll be back there at the weekend & hopefully I can get a few more photos. Thanks for your visit. 🙋‍♂️

  4. Here temperature is around 30 deg despite raining intermittently. But I’m glad you feel refreshed after visiting the coast. I also like to sit by the seashore. Wish you happy days ahead, Ashley 🙏💐🎉

  5. Awww…. I’m overjoyed the sunshine arrived! Sounds and looks like you had a wonderful day.
I think that autumnal equinox falls about September 22 or 23.. making it first day of Autumn… my favorite season. Thank you for the mention, my dear friend. I hope any negative story reverses soon… or at least brightens up and here’s to more renewal days. 🙏✨🌟🔆🌸

    1. Thank you, Marina, for the sunshine you sent. Today again, it is another sunny day & hot, so we’re returning to the coast very soon, before it breaks! 🤗💐🙋‍♂️

  6. Glad you had a good day out! Looks like a lovely place. Equinoxes and Solstices have been celebrated since ancient times. Stonehenge is one of the ancient sites for this celebration. The Mayan’s celebrated them as well.

  7. It is good to hear that you are feeling refreshed and better. A day out can make a big difference, specially at the seaside. It looks great on your pictures. The temperatures were rising again and we have a Summer week with 30 degrees. It is beautiful and we enjoy it. Keep the good spirits up and let the feeling of being refreshed last!

    1. Thank you, Ute. We’re off to the seaside again on Sunday as we found a restaurant in the same location. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Of course, we might just have to finish our meal with some ice cream! 🍨 Yes, the coastal air has really worked its magic! 💐🙋‍♂️

  8. A little sunshine can make all the difference in the world! It’s been a tough summer where I live as well. We had one of the rainiest seasons on record, and on days it wasn’t raining it has been unseasonably hot and humid. Regardless, those photos are beautiful. So happy you were able to get out and enjoy those magnificent views! 🤗🌊☀️

  9. I’m now desperate for the heatwave to end. We’re on holiday in North Yorkshire and it’s been too hot to do much of anything! Looking forward to some rain tomorrow night hopefully 🙂

    1. Oh dear, Andrea, it’s not often that we have too much heat, but the last few years have been bringing changes! It is still warm here today, Saturday, hopefully there will be some relief soon 💐🙋‍♂️

  10. Amigo Ashley, beautiful pictures in a quiet place, I’m sure you enjoyed there. This summer I have been in the north of Spain, Cantabrian Sea, enjoying mild temperatures. While where I live, after almost 38 degrees, there have been strong storms and flooding. The weather is a little crazy. Abrazo.

    1. Thank you, Amigo, I must remember not to visit your home in the summer months! I don’t think I would survive the heat there & I don’t wish to bump into signore Brambilla, especially since I am a retired person. It’s not just the weather that’s crazy, there are a lot of crazy people everywhere around the world! Los mejores deseos! 🙋‍♂️

    1. We’re not used to such heat but it makes up for the wet July & August. It is still very warm here today, Monday, but it’s been raining overnight & now it’s very humid. xx

  11. Thank you for sharing this. I love these pictures. 🙂
I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed your trip there.🍀

    Have a wonderful weekend! 😄🌸
