Carlingford

A glorious day out, stopping first at Strandfield (I will post about there on another day) then visiting here at Carlingford in the Republic of Ireland.  The return journey was on the ferry across Carlingford Lough back to Northern Ireland, UK (Greenore to Greencastle) finishing with a very late lunch in Warrenpoint.  I will do this trip again and hopefully I’ll remember to take more photos! 🤔 I forgot to take my hat, perhaps that’s the reason, but the weather was amazing!

    1. Thanks, Michael. Behind me, not in view are the Cooley Mountains and across the water in the hazy distance are the Mourne Mountains. I’m sure you’d love walking here. 🙋‍♂️

      1. I shall have to visit, Ashley. I keep saying I will, indeed that I must. Perhaps I mentioned before, my grandfather was from County Mayo, so I feel a deep connection with Ireland, and a desire to explore that area, but have yet to do so.

    1. Actually, I have many more photos but they are family snaps whilst we had our youngest daughter visiting us. There were lots of smiles. 💕🤗🙋‍♂️

    1. Hey Edo-san! It was the perfect day as we had our youngest daughter with us. She’d come for the week and we loved every moment. This week, we go to visit our eldest daughter and at last meet our 2 great grandchildren! 😊🙋‍♂️

    1. Hi Paula, yes, you must visit Strandfield, but get there early. We’ve only been a few times and it’s always very busy. The food is good. 😊🙋‍♂️

    1. Dear Ute, we had such a grand day out especially as our youngest daughter 💕 was with us on a short visit from the SE of England. 🤗🙋‍♂️

    1. Hello Friedrich, the mountains on either side of the lough are worth exploring although nowhere as high as in your home. However, I did see a flyer for a diving in the lough 🤔 cold & dark waters I thought.

  1. Dear Katelon, lovely to hear from you. The building you ask about was built in the 13th century, during King John’s reign. Today it is simply called Carlingford Castle.

  2. What a lovely idea for a day out! That area has it all – the Mournes, the Cooley Mountains, a sea loch and to top it all, a ferry journey. I hope you manage to get back soon and on another beautiful day.

One of my favourite songs ‘Farewell to Carlingford’ is going through my head as I write this!

    1. Thank you for a reminder of the song. It’s been a long time since I heard it (Dubliners?). We will surely make a return trip. Coming across the lough on this day, with the Mournes in front of us was glorious and we finished up at the Whistledown Hotel in Warrenpoint, where we met with family for lunch. A brilliant day.

    1. Dear Bela, it is lovely that you are able to subscribe to my posts. I try to post regularly about the changing seasons and occasionally about the places we visit around about here. 🤗🌹🙋‍♂️

  3. Dear Harini, thank you for your lovely comments. 🙏 Here in Northern Ireland no one is too far from the sea! Indeed, tomorrow, I plan to take my wife and I to the coast along the southern shore of Belfast Lough. Hopefully, I will post some photos, although the weather forecast is for rain, again! ☔☔☔
