A short break in Dundrum, County Down

Two heads,
Surface near the quay;
Harbour seals.

We had a short break in Dundrum, County Down, staying in a fabulous apartment that overlooked the bay.  We were a little unlucky not to have the warm sunny weather of the previous three weeks, however, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.  There is a small supermarket and petrol station, a pub and a couple of restaurants and eateries!  I shall add a couple of links at the bottom of the page.

Here are a few of the photos from our visit:

There’s a ruined castle to explore and some really wonderful walks around the area, Murlough National Nature Reserve being exceptional.  There is also a Coastal Rowing Club; one of my photos shows a couple of boats being launched.  Just a few miles south of the village is Newcastle with plenty of shops and places to eat.

    1. Thank you, Kerfe, it is an area we don’t really know; further down the coast, yes, but Dundrum we’ve only ever driven through. Glad we finally stayed there! 🤗😊

  1. Nice rainbow. The first thing I noticed when
    looking at a map was the Murlough Nature Reserve; I would’ve spent some time there. I enjoyed your hokku and want to see some harbour seals. Sounds and looks like a great time, Ashleaf!

    1. Thanks Ed, we did actually visit the nature reserve; we will be back there very soon so another post to come! There are 2 parts to the Nature Reserve, North Point and South End. We’ve been on the South End many times but the North Point is also worth exploring. I’m also keen to take some photos of the boats being launched so I’ve been in touch with the rowing club and they’ve sent me their training times! We’re returning sooner than expected; this Saturday and I’ve booked a night in the Dundrum Inn! 👍😊

  2. Gorgeous photos, Ashley. So different from my part of the world. And your verse is vivid in its imagery. Sounds as though you had a fun time. 😊🌳

    1. Dear Mike, my apologies for not responding sooner. Yes, we had a lovely time there, very relaxing. Some nice easy walking too, on the flat!

  3. I am not quite sure how I have missed your recent posts. This trip looks lovely especially as it is by the sea. Love your picture of the bobbing harbour 🦭 seals. 🙂

    1. Ir had been years since doing collage so this was fun. And the rowers…well they went on to win the “world’s” held in Stranraer in July. Dundrum…wonderful. Thanks Sharon for your lovely comments. 🤗😊
