Foraminifera: Kick-About #137

What are Foraminifera?  I had to look them up only to discover that there are thousands of them living in or on the seafloor.  I’m not a scientist so my understanding of them is minimal but they are single-celled organisms; tiny seashells.

Here is a link to the Kick-About organised by Phil.  Head on over there and discover the wonderful interpretations of others who also took up the challenge of the prompt:

The Kick-About #137 ‘Foraminifera’

And just as a bit of fun, the same image but upside down:

I’m not sure that this was a success for me as I struggled with the practical skills of making a mobile with such fine materials.  Doing it again, I would use wood for the Forams and cord to hang them.  My fingers just aren’t as flexible as they used to be.

Having my work displayed in the Kick-About’s is a delight and seeing it alongside such talented artists is a real driver to improving my own artwork.

    1. Dear Katelon, thank you. Someone used that word (whimsical) about one of my earlier artworks; I love it, although I don’t feel whimsical, inside!. Obviously, it is trying to get out there into the world. 🤗💐😊

  1. Your artwork is a great interpretation . Love that mobile. Brilliantly done, Ashley. You can be proud to be among the artists, you are one too!

    1. Dear Luisa, thank you for your wonderful comments. 🤗 Now, you’re supposed to be on a summer break 🏖 enjoy your time off. 🤗😊

  2. I love it. I like yours best. I am impressed. Reminds me of my days of doing 3D art and mobiles, make me a little ‘homesick’ for those days. Or maybe it inspires me to try again here in Scotland. I am thrilled that you got to show your work with other artists too. Well done 🥰💫🪅🌿💐

    1. Dear Morag, thank you for you lovely comments. Yes! You should do some more mobiles; with them moving in the slightest air disturbance, they are always changing. I think I should do more, too! 🤗💐😊

  3. Love the art piece, Ashley, and love the upside down perspective as well. It reminds me of laying on the floor as a child and seeing the ceiling as floor with archways as dividers. ~Nan

    1. Thank you, Nan. I like your idea, something I’ve not done since I was a child and perhaps, something we should all do, from time to time! 🤗😊

      1. Ashley,

I do physical therapy exercises, many of which require me to be on my back. While holding the stretches, I look up at the ceiling and find all kinds of pictures there from elephants to caricatures (cartoon drawings of heads) to cats to…you name it. It’s fascinating; take the time to look up! 😉
