A dark silhouette; Beneath the tree's bark, The sap is rising.
Walking around Moira Demesne on a bitterly cold morning, I couldn’t resist taking a photo of this tree. Against the grey sky, it’s dark silhouette looked foreboding, like something out of a fairy tale. Perhaps, one day, I might write a story about it.

PS. Yes, I know! I’m a day late in publishing! 🥴
I love your March haiga! Both the hokku and the image are beautiful! That image is stunning…a great example of mid-spring, March being the mid-spring month. I use the word haiga to denote a hokku combined with an image, which the great Buson was famous for.) Excellent work, 灰の木の葉-sama!
Thanks, Edo! I really appreciate your comments. It was cold enough to wear a hat and gloves but I was walking with a good friend so the chat helped keep the cold at bay. Thanks for your visit 🙏🙋♂️
Wonderful greeting to March, my friend! I hope you enjoyed your special day! 😉
Happy March, my friend. 👌🌸🙏
Thank you, Marina, I certainly did! No presents these days, not even cake, but a lovely meal in a favourite restaurant. Instead of cake, I had apple crumble with vanilla custard and a scoop of ice cream! That’s my quota of dairy until next month!😋 Have a lovely March; not long until the equinox! 🌷🌸🙋♂️
Ah… that sounds wonderful to me!
Not long to Spring! 😉 🌸😊
Excellent Haiku! I like the silhouette of the leafless tree, Ashley!
Thank you, Indira, for visiting and your lovely comments. 🌹🙋♂️
It’s a stunning picture, seems to be a work of professional photographer. And, Ashley, the beautiful haiku goes perfectly well with this image. Well done 🙏💐
Thank you, Kaushal, I’m just not techie enough to be a professional photographer, I tend to point and hope for the best with my mobile phone! It worked this time! Thank you for your visit 🙏🙋♂️
From one A to another: naked trees have their own beauty. This one certainly does. 🙋♂️
Stark! Yes, but below the surface, new life is building! 🙋♂️
The tree picture with your poem is perfect, Ashley. Both fantastic!
Thank you, dear Ute, for your lovely comment 🌹🙋♂️
The tree makes a beautiful silhouette. I hope that Spring is really around the corner. X
If one follows the pagan calendar, the 1st of February marks the beginning of spring, which is Imbolc (or Candlemas in the Christian calendar). At that time many plants are already showing themselves (snowdrops, crocus etc). For me, that is the beginning of spring. We can still have cold weather and I see that there might be some snow next week. I’ve still got the heating on! Thanks, Sharon, for visiting and for your comments 🤗🌹🙋♂️
Better late than never. Thank you for poetry and tree ❤
Dear Marina, thank you for your visit. I really appreciate it. I do still read your newsletters (which are brilliant) and confirm that I AM WALKING every day, anything from 30 mins to an hour, and as the daylight grows so will the length of my walks. Have a great weekend 🤗😘🌹🙋♂️
Dear Ashley,
Thank you very much for your colorful greeting and very kind and motivating feedback. I am glad to hear, that YOU ARE WALKING and increasingly so. Walk on and have a great weekend, week and month 🙂
I have a soft spot for lone trees, Ashley. That one is magnificent.
Me too! There were a couple of other trees there which I could have added. Another post maybe? This is a very short walk, but meeting a good friend and a catch-up is good for the soul. It’s always good to hear from you, Michael. Thanks for dropping by! 🙋♂️
Beautiful haiku for March ,3
Thank you for the lovely comment 🌸🙋♂️
you are very welcome ❤
I have to say I totally agree with you. That tree can be used in the beginning of a mystery or a horror movie. I can even imagine the music coming with it. It is quite ominous and foreboding.
And yet…the sap is rising and the daylight is increasing! Thank you for your visit here 🌸🙋♂️
What a gorgeous photo and you managed to say so much in 11 words. Lovely work.
Bridgette, I have broken so many cameras over the years I now ONLY use my phone and my technique is AIM and PRESS! It’s a wonder they turn out. Thank you for your lovely comment. 🌸🌷🙋♂️
Now, stop it. That’s going too far 😉 x
Wow! You must just have a natural talent for it 🙂
