Another in the Kick-About series of artworks. Below is a link to Phil Gomm’s website where I and others were challenged with the title Semper Augustus. Head on over and see what we’ve come up with:
The Kick-About #132 ‘Semper Augustus’
Here is a preview of my own artwork and short verse:
Flowers, tulips, Always uplifting; Wonderful.
If you are not familiar with Semper Augustus, below is a link to the Amsterdam Tulip Museum which explains the story:

great work on this Ashley. i really do often wonder why tulips have such a hold on me. try as i might to articulate it, they are just beautiful flowers to behold. again, beautiful work! Mike
Thanks Mike, agree! Tulips are special! Thanks for your comments! 👍
Excelente trabajo 💝
Thanks PK! 👍
Nice flowers Ash!
Phil, many thanks for dropping by and your comment! 👍
Well done, I like yours most of all 👌💟
Aww! Thank you Morag! Cutting-out the shapes felt a bit like being back at school. 🤗💌
😀😀🤩 you have a lovely illustrative style.
Thank you for such a wonderful comment! 🤗💐😘
You are welcome 🤗
Lovely! And an interesting story of how a happy accident changed art, life, and botany.
As in so many things in life, Camilla! Thank you for your comments!
Beautiful artwork and verse, Ashley. Thanks for sharing the link about the famous tulip. It’s interesting how a virus could inadvertently create a highly prized tulip. Imperfection takes top place.
Thank you Rosaliene, for your lovely comments. I agree: perfect imperfection! 🤗💌
🙂
They are. I really like the otherworldly feel of your tulips. And they look like they are dancing! (K)
Thank you Kerfe! Yes, they are cut-outs and if I’d used a “non-stick” glue dot I might have been able to make them move a bit more! Perhaps dancing alongside your dancers! 💃💃🕺 Food for thought, for another artwork? 🤗👍
They could dance together!
💃🕺
Love it, both the verse and the drawing. Beautiful drawing. 🙂
Dear Ute, thank you. I know you like tulips and wonder if on your visit to the Netherlands, whether you visited the Amsterdam Tulip Museum. Thank you for your wonderful comments! 🤗😊
Never went to the museum, I did see the tulips in Keukenhof in real.
I do love the tulips. 💐
Ah, uplifting and wonderful both your artwork and words! 🌷👌
Many thanks Marina, for your encouraging comment! 🤗😊
My pleasure, my friend! 🌸
Terrific tulip 🌷 art there Ashley. 🙂
Thank you Sharon. It’s quite a story too! 🌷🤗😊
Your artistic nature fascinates me, Ashley. Hope you & your beloved are well. 🙂
Thank you, Lisa. That is a very thoughtful comment. In my teens, art was everything then something changed and I went to work…had a career…! So, here I am, late to the party 🥳
Nice hokku and I ike your artwork, Fraxinusama!
Many thanks Edo-san. Sorry for delay in replying. We’ve had a short break which I will write about, soon. 👍
They’re beautiful Ashley – I like the extra dimension given by them being cut outs and the way you’ve used the lines and the colours to bring them to life.
Dear Andrea, thank you for your wonderful comments. I might use the technique again as I thought it worked well. I’ve just finished the next K-A and with a short holiday as well, my reply to you is overdue; my apologies. 🤗😊
Beautiful art work Ashley 😍
